One of the highlights of our SPAADS 2010 Reunion that is in the process of being firmed up is a one hour 'Air Salute to SPAADS'. The intent is to have flypasts by a few Canadian Forces aircraft and a couple of Civil Air Display routines that include participation by a few Spaads members that are still doing that stuff.
The 'Air Salute' will take place 1430 to 1530 hours on Saturday after the Grand Lunch, and will be over the water along the shoreline in front of the Lakeside Resort. This has been blessed by the Mayor, (and our Air Force) and the public will be invited to watch from the beaches on both sides of the Lakeside.
Participation will be by:
- A CF Aurora from 407 (Long Range Patrol) Squadron of Comox;
- A CF-18 from 410 (Tactical Fighter) Squadron of Cold Lake; a duo Yak display by SPAADS member Bud Granley and his son Ross, which is a feature of the popular Granley Airshows.
- And a formation demonstration by the "Fraser Blues" flying Navion aircraft, which includes SPAADS member George Miller & his son Guy. (It was hoped to get Hawk 1 but it will be performing the same weekend at Shearwater at our Navy's centennial).
There are a few variables that have to fall in line to conduct airshows in the mountains, but weather at that time of year is generally excellent and participant commitments, right now, look pretty solid. This is all to honor our SPAADS members, their spouses, relatives & guests attending this great SPAADS 2010 Reunion in Penticton.
